A book on the history and ships from this Cork shipyard would be interesting I think.

No Mike, the Irena Dan (1977) for Lauritzen Bulkers of Denmark was 72,374DWT, and Irish Spruce (1983) for Irish Shipping was 71,927DWT. The four vessels for Ernst Jacob around 50.900DWT.

Kind regards,

Frank

Thanks Frank for that info.
She must have been one of the biggest ships built in Cork.

Nice photo Mike. Built Verolme Cork Dockyard. One of a series of 4 , the other being Rolf Jacob, Margot Jacob and Lutz Jacob. Going back to Babette Jacob she was launched on the 8th of April 1972, and completed 26th July 1972. Main engine was a MAN 2SA 6 cyclinder two-stroke built under licence by Verolme Maschinefabrik IJsselmonde. She met her end on the 18th september 1997 at the breakers in Alang Besar Indonesia. During that time I grew up on the hills surronding Verolme Cork Dockyard and every day saw her various stages of construction, which is why this Vessel is rather special to me!. Thank you Mike, very much for sharing.

Kind Regards,

Frank
