The forepart of ANNE MILDRED BRØVIG was welded together with the aftpart of Onassis' AL-MALIK SAUD AL-AWAL, and the "new" tankbarge was renamed MAJMAA NO.1.
The Onassis-tanker was built in Hamburg in 1954, and was a sistervessel to TINA ONASSIS, the world's largest tanker when delivered.

Thanks for posting.

This is a rare and interesting photo of a small coaster which was involved in a bad collision in February 1966. She rammed the much larger Norwegian crude oil tanker ANNE MILDRED BROEVIG (40.915tdw, 1962 Öresundsvarvet, Landskrona) on a gloomy winter day 54°17'N 06°48'E some 37 miles West of the island of Helgoland. PENTLAND could proceed to Hamburg slowly as her collision bulkhead remained fully intact. The tanker however burst into flames and sank with the stern to the bottom of the North Sea while the forepart stood afloat. By the use of explosives the forepart with the remaining cargo of some 25.000t was finally separated an recovered. The stern settled at the bottom of the sea at some 38m depth. After cleaning the forepart was laid up at Hamburg, Waltershofer Hafen in late 1966 und in 1968 rebuilt as a storage tank and towed to Dubai.

PENTLAND had two sister ships: FINLAND, COURLAND both completed by D.W.Kremer, Elmshorn.

Regards
Thomas
