Description:
Heavy lift vessel LAPAD seen prior to commencement of the loading operation (by roll-on method over the side of the ship) of the container crane *portal*; destination Philadelphia, USA
This photo is to well illustrate and document, how this *small* heavy lift vessel managed to load, and later transport to Philadelphia that *huge* container crane portal; via the Med and across the Atlantic ocean.
It is moreover amazing, how the small-sized heavy lift vessel LAPAD managed to safely arrive to Philadelphia (though it had a "rather nasty" incident on approach to Philadelphia due to very bad sea);
Photo captured at shipyard Viktor Lenac, Rijeka, Croatia; 1987
Photo by my very best friend Darko Belas (late); Photo Credits: Archives of shipyard Viktor Lenac, Rijeka, Croatia; within my collection since 1993 with approval; scanned from hard copy/print photograph with Epson Perfection V600;
Though an aged hard copy/print photograph I apologize for the quality... however, that particular occasion was a *very rare* one to spot and document.
