Thanks again Acrop for the background.
A canny owner/investor that was good or lucky at anticipating the rise and falls in shipping rates could make a fortune buying cheap and selling high a short time later when the demand picks up again.

Fostiropoulos family made a superb move in early '90s buying ten handymax bulkers (built Daewooo and HHI) from Russians and kept them up until 2009 to 2011 (selling last). One can imagine the fortune that must have been made during the booming years 2003 - 2009... After buying a 1998 capezize in 2009 for Fairsky Shipping, he did not buy again any bulkers. Besides he set up a tanker company called Almi Tankers and made a huge order in Daewoo for a dozen of suezmaxes, then a couple of VLCCs and I think a couple of LNGs by now. Fairksy - the dry arm - has no ships left since the capezize - M/V Ionian Prosperity - sold to breakers.

Nowadays Fostiropoulos family is operating under ALMI TANKERS S.A. Athens with a large fleet of modern suezmaxes and VLCCs.

MICHALIS was owned by Costas M. Fostiropoulos family (Fairsky Shipping, Athens, Greece). Fostiropoulos family was a prominent manufacturer of trucks and buses as well as dealer of Mercedes Benz cars in Greece.
