There is always confusion regarding the 'yard numbers' of Neptun and the yard themselves actually revised these over time. The latest Schiffsregister I have, published by the Neptun yard 1985, gives Viljuy as 265/1060. 265 is the series number, and the second number is the actual sequential yard number. The vessel is the 8th of the Kovel/Andizhan series.

The other vessels referred to in the link are given as
Onda, built as Primorsk, 290/1119 Kovel/33
Posyet 292/1121. Kovel/35
Venta, 244/1138 built as Emetsk, Kovel/42

Regarding the Gorizont trio, although based on the Kovel hull they were classed by Neptun as Schulschiff, Gorizont was 181/1122, based Odessa, Zenit 182/1123 based Leningrad and Meridian 183/1124 based Vladivostok

Neptun yard no. looks like 265/995. Both Allan's link and LR/IHS have that (Miramar's is just truncated).

No sightings since soon after the photo as KOMANDOR.
Panama regitry was closed 2004 (and LR/IHS deleted her in 2011 as existence in doubt)

Hi Igor, thanks. You're welcome.
Nice work Marin71!

I note that 'Vilyuy' had an allocated IMO number of 8894457 and can be seen later in life as 'Komandor' HERE on Shipspotting.

Additionally, Miramar NZ, shows a builder's yard no. of 265 rather than 1121.
There seems to be no recent reports nor demolition details available. Surely, by now, the vessel is no longer in existence..?

One of a large number of 'Kovel' Class vessels built for the Soviet Union between 1958 & 1962(?) by VEB Neptun Werft, Rostock, East Germany.
A typical example HERE .

Many were standard 4 hold vessels, and several were built, or later converted, to other roles.
This vessel appears to have been retrofitted with a large crane forwards and two smaller cranes aft, inferring that her foremast & derricks were removed.

There is also additional accommodation at the upper deck level. I have checked the three examples which were completed as training ships; 'Gorizont', 'Zenit' & 'Meridian' but they do not match this ship.

I am still searching, so perhaps somebody else will recognise her.
Regards, Rick
