Description:

29th January 1967, exactly fifty years ago today, was the last of three full days spent at Gravesend armed with a new camera.

The fourth ship to be photographed on that day was the 1942 built ACER, built at Lauzon, Canada, as GATINEAU PARK and purchased by Greece in 1950. Renamed ALKIS and managed by S.G.Embiricos, she had been renamed ACER in 1964. She was arriving at London from Rosario via Montevideo and had suffered a grounding en route. Further renamed MELIA in 1969 she finally arrived at Onomichi on 26.12.69 for breaking

What was the make of camera, Malcolm? Great photo of this interesting type of cargo vessel. Incidentally, after googling Onomichi, there's an interesting website showing the history of the shipyard.
