Description:
Bristol City Line’s 1954 Readhead, South Shields, built GLOUCESTER CITY was approaching the end of her career when photographed passing Portishead, outbound from Avonmouth, on 3rd February 1967, exactly fifty years ago today.
On 25th May 1968 she sailed from Avonmouth for the last time under new ownership as ST.JOHN as which she was sadly wrecked at Fort Dauphin, Madagascar, on 30th October that year during a voyage from Montreal to Djakarta.
This photograph can be seen in my book Bristol Port and Channel Nostalgia, published in 2013 by Coastal Shipping of Portishead
