Description:

US Ready Reserve Force Auxiliary Crane Ship. Converted from the container ship CV Export Leader in 1987. Has 4 30ton cranes and can still carry 300+ standard containers. Would assist in unloading other ships at ports where there cranes have either been damage/destroyed or not adequate. Is normally on ROS-5 status, meaning it takes 5 days to reactivate and based in Newport News VA.
Seen here being towed west past Fort Monroe Hampton VA by the tugs Patrice McAllister, G.M. McAllister, and Steven McAllister (seen here). I *think* she is returning from a dry docking period in Boston Maine.
In 1990 she and her sisters ship Flickertail State (T-ACS 5) were involved in Operation Steel Box. This was the transportation of 100,000 pieces of chemical warfare munitions from Germany to Johnston Atoll in the Pacific for destruction.
