As I understand it, in this case the ship was initially built for a subsidiary of Alliance & Leicester Commercial Finance (part of Bank Santander) at a cost of $52mn with a five year charter to CMA CGM - the charterer subsequently purchased the subsidiary.
CAM CGM then unloaded it 2 years later for $45mn to a Hammonia-run partnership, with a charter back. The investors will not have been happy to see the ship go after five years for a paltry $8.1mn.
Plenty of low-mileage spare parts becoming available.
