Description:

Built by J.L. Thompson in 1965, she was one of several midsize crude carriers delivered to BP in the sixties.

At anchor in the Caland Canal, in the early eighties probably soon to depart for her last voyage as she was broken up in 1983.

Norwegian Bergesen d.y. group had BERGE BERGESEN of 96 000 t.dw. built in 1963. She had a 21000 BHK B&W diesel engine, and in 1964 sistervessel BERGECHIEF was delivered. In 1965 Bergesen d.y. got his first motortanker exceeding 100 000 t.dw

JackinMalvern, I am not sure about the claim of the largest motor ship ever built at the time. In 1961 the Kobe yard of Mitsubishi delivered the Motor Tanker Olympus for Greek account, which ,after the revised load line convention had a DWT of 77500. She was fitted with a 22000 BHP engine, providing a speed of 16.5 knots. The Br. Commerce had a Sulzer 9RD90 engine, which produced 18000 BHP. Her overall dimensions were also slightly smaller.

Joined this ship at the builders yard on the Tyne. I believe she was, at the time, the largest Motor Vessel ever built. Was Engineer Cadet on maiden voyage.
