Description:

The former Kriegsmarine submarine U 995 of Type VIIC/41 is seen here in the Naval Arsenal Kiel (MArs Kiel). Originally British war booty, the vessel became Norwegian in Oct 1948 and was commissioned on 6 Dec 1952 as KAURA. Decommissioned in 1965, the veteran submarine was returned to the German Navy (!) as a gift. Initially laid up as depicted here on 21 Nov 1968, she was eventually in 1971 put ashore at Laboe as museum.
The small craft in lay-up nested around are FL 1 (fwd left) and behind her (left to right) WELLE, KW 1, STROMER, and MERKUR. I dared to take the picture, despite a strict photo prohibition in the MArs, during a maintenance period of my ship in there.

Reply for Trygve Eriksen:
The shot was made by me on 21 Nov 1968. Actually the system did not accept the date in the respective field for reasons unknown to me.

Are those small craft the ex World War II German small craft that were used for infiltration purposes into the Baltic States immediately by the British after the war?
