I am almost sure that it is the Balto of 1907: the large air shafts just before the funnel are typical for this ship. The vessel sailed as Balto in the period 1927-1933. The funnel colours as far as visible in the photo could easily correspond with the funnel marking of Stolt-Nielsen.
History of the ship:
1907: built by J.L. Thompson & sons, Sunderland as River Plate for River Plate SS Co. (A. Low, Son & co. mgrs.), London. 1913: sold to Johan Ludwig Mowinckel & son, Bergen and renamed Bjornefjord.1927: sold to A/S Stolt-Nielsen's Rederi (B. Stolt-Neielsen: sold to L.B. Moller (Moller & Co.), Shanghai and renamed Louise Moller. 1935: owners became N.E.A. Moller (same managers) 1936: ownerd became Moller Line Ltd. (Moller's Ltf. managers), Shanghai. 1942: 13th november torpedoed by U178 on a voyage from Durban to Mombasa with coal. A photo of this ship can also be found in: L.M. Bjorkelund and E. H. Kongshavn, Vare Gamle skip, Haugesund 1996, page 359.
