Description:

VLCC Maran Triton arriving early this morning, being moored in the Caland Canal waiting to be loaded with crude/fuel oil, destination Far East.
Built by Hyundai, Samho (#153) as SAMCO ASIA. It is the typical Korean VLCC design with the raised tank section from the bridge onwards. Anybody with an explanation for that?

Well have spent a while with VELA, everybody remember Sirius Star case, first VLCC captured by pirates, I join just after this sad event and later all new buildings, actually 4 of them latest addition to Vela fleet was with covered "sunken deck". Homam, Antares, Virgo & Matar Stars. Best Regards

Thank you Vladimir, that sort of makes sense, but it is strange that VLCC's built in Japan or China never seem to have this feature.

I believe it's done for purpose, chipper payment during crossing Suez chanel, at least such explanation I listen several times. Less aft freeboard and less fullships volume whatever way they counts during payment. Best Regards
