Auxiliaries | Description: | USNS Lewis B. Puller (T-ESB 3)
Aquired by the US Navy in 2015 and operated by the US Military Sealift Command, she is designed to support mine warfare and special operations forces as a forward operating base.
She was by NASSCO Shipbuilding in California and is 764 feet long, over 75000 tons fully loaded with a draft of 25.5 feet. Her upper deck includes hanger and support facilities for all current US operated helicopters, with the main types to probably be operated are minesweeping versions of the H-53 Super Stallion and H-60 Knight Hawk helicopters.
The lower decks can be used as docks for supporting and supplying smaller minesweepers and other craft.
It is expected she will start a multi year deployment to replace the USS Ponce in the Persian Gulf sometime in 2017.
She is seen here going east past Fort Monroe Hampton VA after leaving Norfolk Naval Base, probably for additional training and trials.
