Purchased by CIL to blitz the upgrading of their whole buoyage and replacement of most light vessels, over a six-year period, and supplementing GRANUAILE. The first over-the-stern tender of the three General Lighthouse Authorities, amid much tut-tutting from the traditionalists - Trinity House were impressed - the Scots weren't and stuck with the old way for the 1996 PHAROS.

Named, it was said, in at least unofficial honour of the then marine superintendent of CIL, Captain Gray.
