The F/V Faith II near Death's Door. Ports Des Morts aka Death's Door is the Cape Horn of the Great Lakes. It is littered with countless shipwrecks. The waters are rarely calm and the currents are relentless. Like Cape Horn it lies at the end of a peninsula with two warring bodies of water at each side. On the West lies the Green Bay Waters. To the East is Lake Michigan.

These two bodies crash and surge through the shallower Death's Door. The effect is like putting a finger over a running garden hose.

Even today the captains on the shipping lanes prefer to stay clear of the Door Of Death if possible. It lies at the end of the Door County Peninsula of Wisconsin. http://www.fishtug.com
