Dambassis family is one of the most low key, albeit old and traditional shipping families in Greece, coming from the island of Andros.

NJ Efstahiou could have been a company director or rep at the time.

The Efstathiou family is most associated with London-based Phocean Ship Agency Ltd. Perhaps there was an Efstathiou who partnered with Dambassis in the running of Alcyon back in the 1980s. Who knows?

Okay but both Lloyd's Confidential and the Piraeus-published Greek Shipping Directory 1981 give N J Efstathiou as the head of Alcyon. Until today I had never heard of Dambassis

I'm afraid that Lloyds Index is wrong. Alcyon Shipping Co Ltd. is/was controlled by the Dambassis family.

CAPTAIN DEMOSTHENES was owned by John Dambassis family (Alcyon Shipping, Athens, Greece and Seaways Maritime, NY). Today the company still goes very strong and keeps a low key.
