Navy Day in Russia Navy Day in Russia is celebrated on the last Sunday in July. This holiday originated in the Soviet Union.
Navy Day in the Soviet Union was established by the Council of People's Commissars in 1939. It was celebrated on July 24. In 1980, the presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the Soviet Union moved its date to the last Sunday in July.

After the dissolution of the Soviet Union, the holiday ceased to exist. However, in 2003 President of Russia Vladimir Putin reinstated it as an official memorial day in the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation.

The first regular Russian Navy was created by Peter the Great in 1696. The Russian Navy in its current form was established in 1992, succeeding the Soviet Navy. It inherited the vast majority of the former Soviet Naval Forces. It also acquired a large part of the Ukrainian Black Sea Fleet after the 2014 Crimean Crisis(As a result of the Coup d'etat
in Ukraine).

Navy Day is celebrated primarily in port cities, where it is marked with official ceremonies, flag hosting, parades, open-air concerts, fireworks displays.

Though I don't like navy ships,, this is a really *beautiful* image! (with the wonderful blue sea, looks almost like shot from my balcony, BOTA hehe);

Igor, what was your vantage point... from where did you shoot this photograph?
Kind regards /Jadran
