Internal cargo deck on-board the SEAROAD MERSEY II.
Location: Devonport, Tasmania, Australia. | Date: 18/12/2016
Community Open Day
On the 18th of December 2016, from 12.00 noon till 5.00 PM, the freight decks of SEAROAD MERSEY II were open for public access. Thousands of people had arrived at the SeaRoad terminal in East Devonport to explore the new state of the art ship - approximately three thousand people in just the first hour!
Food and beverage stores as well as an ice-cream van were set up at the SeaRoad terminal for the occasion. A free shuttle bus was operating on the day, bringing people to and from the terminal after parking spaces became depleted.
When approaching the new SeaRoad vessel, visitors were presented with the ship’s two access ramps - a narrow ramp on the left that leads to the top weather deck and a wide ramp on the right which gives access to the ship’s two internal cargo decks.
All three cargo decks were completely void - with the exception of four livestock containers at the aft end of the weather deck and two containers (one stacked on top of the other) at the fore end of the internal cargo deck. Being presented with large empty decks gave visitor an impressive visual perception of the size and cargo carrying capabilities of the new ship.
