AFAIK for simple Soviet citizens it was not an easy task to take pictures of warships. I've recently talked to a Russian navy historitian and he mentioned he could not even dare take his camera in Vladivostok in 1987, quite a 'vegetarian' year. It was much easier for naval officers - some of them made priceless collections of images of Soviet warships.
Vitaliy Kostrichenko (http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/search.php?search_uid=24145) is a good example. Unfortunately he passed away a month ago.

Your remarks about me contributing to your interest in this website I accept with great humility. My main objective is to make shipping in my area known to the world. But my main interest is the Navy and when I see posts like yours, I'm overjoyed. Years ago seeing a Soviet naval unit on an original slide or negative was an absolute rarity.
A Swedish contact of mine would occasionally photograph a Soviet warship at a distance in the Sound but in 1987 he did go to St.Petersburg for a naval review and was surprised he could photograph warships anchored on the Neva without being interfered with by the police. He did take outstanding slides of the destroyers, FACs and frigates present. Your views remind me of this event 30 years ago. My contact sent me slides of these ships which were the first real good slides I had received depicting then Soviet Navy vessels.
Now thanks to the Internet an entirely new way of sharing photos is with us. Thank you so much for sharing your outstanding images with us.

Thanks for appreciating my contribution. Your great photos I found here (St.Laurence river etc.)were definitely one of factors to begin uploading my photos to Shipspotting. That's how free exchange works.
As for the event - it is not 100th anniversary of the Russian Navy (300th anniversary was in 1996) or smth like that. Just a demonstration of naval power before president election in 2018, a part of Putin's political campaign. Of course it was a great and unforgettable show to all St.Petersburg.
And maybe good news is that's i've uploaded less than a half of pics yet.

Thank you so much for posting these great shots of Russian naval vessels which participated Russian Navy Day celebrations in Saint Petersburg held on July 30 marking the 100th anniversary of the Russian Navy. I saw the event live on Facebook and was very impressed by the footage shown. Your photos are excellent and illustrate very well some of the ships which took part.
