Description:

The Global Rigging and Transport crane barge THE BIG JOHNSON tied up near berth 2 at Fraser Surrey Docks in Surrey, British Columbia, Canada.

THE BIG JOHNSON was originally built in 1943 at the Portsmouth Navy Yard in New Hampshire as the torpedo testing barge YTT-6. It was transferred to Keyport, Washington after World War II, and later struck from the US Naval Register. It was used as a barge by various owners and under various names until being sold to Global Rigging and Transport and converted to a crane barge in 2003. The crane has a lifting capacity of 250 tons.
