It is not just a Type 214 class submarine, it is THE type 214 class prototype Papanikolis. It was ready for delivery in 2005 but the Greeks did find many excuses (claming the quality of the sub is substandard or at least not what they ordered) so that they not had to accept the delivery an pay the rest of the price. The ship stayed in Kiel for many years. Even the Name Papanikolis was removed and replaced with SM361 and later with NB361. Finally the Greeks did accept the boot and now it is in Service with the Hellenic (Greek) Navy. The Picture was taken when the boat had to stay in Kiel due to the difficulties with the Greek Navy.

Possibly it was returned to the constructor by the economic crisis of Greece
