WELCOME TO SHIPSPOTTING.COM
Description:
11,372 grt; 14,650 dwt; 100 teu
Operated by Companhia de Navegação Lloyd Brasileiro, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
Built 1981 by CCN Maua, Niteroi, Brazil. Yard no. 139
NOT an SD14 but a Brazilian-built Prinasa 121 derivation of Austin & Pickersgill's slightly larger SD15 standard design.
The main difference between the Brazilian-built versions of the SD14 and those from British yards was that the Brazilians used MAN engines instead of Sulzer types. This was because Brazilian engine builder Mecanica Pesada SA held a licence to build MAN-designed engines.
LLOYD ALEGRETE is seen here arriving for Tilbury Dock, Port of London in the early 1980s. She went to breakers at Chittagong, Bangladesh in 2001
Former name(s):
- Lloyd Alegrete (Until 1992 Sep)
