That was truly quite an experience, Bob, I wouldn't have liked to be "in your skin" on that particular day at such bad winter weather circumstances,, however,, summer times at Rijeka are now, the last 3 years, up to +40°C (wow,, that's on the other hand >> too hot).

Thank you once again, Bob, for your post with the *travel report*,, was really much interesting to read it....

Nice one Jadran. These photos of yours are always somehow calming to the spirit, the quiet sea and a ship departing/arriving :-).
Cheers from (still) sunny Vancouver

I've been there and experienced your winter weather. Did an epic one-day drive from Rijeka (for Treci Maj shipyard) to Pula (Brod Uljanik) in heavy rain. Then I should have driven back via Rijeka to Zagreb but the road was blocked by a huge landslide. So I had to go via Koper, almost into Italy (I could see Trieste from the mountains) then through Ljubljana to Zagreb, with heavy and deep snow in the hills and inland. 10 hours driving, non-stop. Quite an adventure! And a couple of days before, on the drive from Split to Rijeka, I experienced the Bura.

Hi Bob,, you're utterly right,, yes,, heavy snow is towards inland and on the mountains north from Rijeka, already on air distance not more than 15 km from Rijeka to the north,, usual layers of snow 1-2m, max 4m.
At city of Rijeka snow is rather seldom,, 2-3 times per year,, usual snow layer being at such occasion 2-5 cm, max layers 10-20 cm.,, but the snow event at Rijeka is very NASTY, because we are not used to it!! and moreover, the snow even turns quickly to ice caused by the strong cold NE wind the *bura* (bora).
Thank you for the interesting comment, Bob, cheers and all the best....
Jadran

PS: I see that you *well* know the area of Rijeka from some time(s)....

A really good one your comment, David :-)) and I can only reply, that I'm eagerly waiting for the first snow to fall at Rijeka this winter to see the consequent *special* effect of that on the BIG WHITE Buoy....
Kind regards from today very sunny & rather warm Rijeka (max. temperature 20°C),

I don't think you'll see a lot of snow in Rijeka. Up in the nearby mountains, maybe.
