Description:

French passenger liner "France", at anchor at Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Canary Islands, on January 23rd 1962 during her inaugural cruise. Built in 1961 at St. Nazaire by Chantiers de l'Atlantique.

Brett, the initial additions in the conversion from France to Norway were (in my view) quite sympathetic. It was that top deck addition, added much later, that made her look awkward and spoiled her over all proportions.

Went on her in 1980 when she had become NORWAY and was having her screws reduced from four to two at Lloyd Werft, Bremerhaven. She was absolutely beautiful in the passenger areas but below decks looked much older than the 20 years she was at that time. Quite tatty, in fact. French Line hadn't looked after her terribly well.

Very fine looking lady, I remember seeing her as a young boy in Cape Town in the 70's. Her additions did her no justice.
