Not an IMO number ..Miramar ID. Hit several times during bombing of Hamburg March 1945.

Yes, those ships would have been ideal for the emigrant trade. They were built purely as cruise ships, no cargo holds, hence the large superstructure. They both had a high standard of accommodation and the crew cabins were to the same standard as those for the passengers. It was tragic that virtually new ships should have been lost. Tragic that several significant ships were lost during the war of course but with this pair it is so easy to see how they could have been used and used usefully.

Just a hypothetical thought: What would have become of the Robert Ley and Wilhelm Gustloff if they had survived the war. They would have been excellent ships for the emigrant and pilgrim trade, with the many cabins with 4 to 8 beds (under allied flag of course).

Brett, you need to Google Deutsche Arbeitsfront (Hamburg-Amerikanische Packetfahrt-Actien-Gesellschaft HAPAG), also search under Strength Through Joy cruises. This ship, along with her near sister Wilhem Gustloff whilst short-lived are extremely significant ships. The Gustloff was one of the great tragedies of WWII.
