Yes it's a bit unclear what he is doing there. On previous pictures some sort of transportable bow radar (mooring/unmooring) was next to him, you can still see in front of the island. So maybe he's still clearing some stuff.
But then on warships there are loads of people, and the ships are normally quite small, so you have to give them some sort of job to keep them busy.....
