Description:

Converted in 1972 from Cargo to Sand Dredger then subsequently to Coal dredger for Parkroy Transport Co.Ltd. Seen in Hendon Dock, Sunderland. Later sold to Marine Sand & Gravel Ltd and registered Valletta. Scrapped Aliaga 10/1996.

Holedrille, the coal is dredged as per any other material i.e. gravel , sand etc.This photo is taken in Sunderland which was surrounded by deep coal mines of the Durham coal field sadly all closed now, but just along the coast, in Northumberland the coal outcrops at the coast, and was regularly eroded etc by the sea action etc, i am surmising she was used for this purpose.Spent many a cold winter morning as a child raking up the "Sea Coal"(Very Fine) from the local beach to sell and use at home.
