Description:
Seen at Heeg/Province of Friesland (The Netherlands) is a replica of the last palingaak KORNELISKE YKES (built in 1872). From 1731 until 1936 each palingaak would transport around 10tons of living eels per voyage from Heeg to London where the so called Dutch moorings were guaranteed near London Bridge. Many thousands of tons of this special fish were delivered to London every year until 1936 when that trade came to an end.
