The "M" in the name comes from the owner K. Mattianos. Initially owned by D. Kalkassinas & K. Mattianos , later only by K. Mattianos. M. Karyfilis is a co-owner or the person legally responsible for her. There have been many cases in Greek Shipping (and worldwide i presume) where the actual name of a ship is different from what is painted on the hull. The information in my previous post comes from the OFFICIAL Greek Registries so it's 100% correct.

Yes Robert, I agree that it is confusing. Have you noticed that whereas the name on the bow is written as TAKIS M., the name on the stern is written only as TAKIS?
Our expert friend Nektarios is invited to advise further.
With best regards to you both. Malcolm Cranfield

Confused now..
Just TAKIS!! I can understand that with TAKIS MYTILINI on the aft where MYTILINI is the port of registry but why TAKIS M on the bow?

Bob

Actually the ship was never officialy named TAKIS M or TAKIS MYTILINI. She always carried the name TAKIS under the Greek Flag.
Info from the OFFICIAL Greek Registries.
TAKIS, Registered at Thessaloniki (off. no 76, B' Class) from 10-4-1969 to 25-6-1970.
TAKIS, Registered at Mytilini (off. no 12, B' Class) from 25-6-1970 to 19-1-1982. Owner : M. Karyfilis.
Sold and deleted from the Greek Registries 19-1-1982.
Call sign SWBN (SV3783), IMO 5093492

Looks like an old mystery solved! An unofficial shortening on bow, I think, with full name on the stern (if the Mytilini was port of registry, then the name of the ship would be just TAKIS, which doesn't seem likely).

Hi Malcolm
Is "TAKIS M" just an abbreviation of her full name? Saw her back in 1972

Bob
