Description:

08/02/2018, sailing from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, Spain.

A Mauretanian fishing vessel, registered at Nouadhibou.
Port registry: NDB/773.

Possibly Spanish built.
Details sought.

19/11/2020, the vessel sank in rough weather and high winds, some 243 kilometers south of Gran Canaria, Canary islands, Spain, and west of Cabo Bojador (Sahara).

The five crew members (two Portuguese, two Mauretanians & one Angolan) took refuge in the emergency liferaft, where they awaited the arrival of aid.

They were rescued that afternoon by Helimer 222 of the Salvamento Maritimo flic.kr/p/2mijJZR

Before the helicopter reached their position, the bulk carrier 'Rising Wind' (See: flic.kr/p/2mijJZR ) which was in the vicinity, travelling northbound, & responded to the emergency.
'Rising Wind' located the liferaft and drew close to, offering to carry out the rescue.

However, given the size of that ship and the wind and wave conditions in that area of ??the Atlantic, it was considered more prudent to create a lee with the ship, protecting them from the wind with its hull, until the helicopter arrived.

Helimer 222 is landed the five survivors at the Gando air base, in Gran Canaria, around 7:40 p.m. the same day.
They were lucky!

The Mauritanian fishing ship 'ARZAK 2' has sunk, south of Gran Canaria.
The five castaways of 'Arzak 2', safe.
A helicopter from Maritime Rescue rescued the crew of the sunken vessel 243 miles south of Gran Canaria
Helimer 222 helicopter rescued this Thursday afternoon in good condition the five crew members of the fisherman Arzak 2, which has sunk 243 miles south of Gran Canaria, a spokeswoman for Efe has told Maritime rescue.
The five castaways-two Portuguese sailors, two Mauritanians and one Angolan-had taken refuge in the emergency raft, where they awaited the arrival of aid.
Before the helicopter reached its position, the merchant Rising Wind, who offered to perform the rescue, stood next to him.
However, given the size of that vessel and the wind and wave conditions that existed in that area of the Atlantic, west of Cabo Bojador (Sahara), Rescue considered more sensible than merely protecting them from the wind with his hull, so the helicopter was coming.
Helimer 222 is expected to land at Gando Air Base in Gran Canaria with all five sailors around 19.40 p.m.
Arzak 2 is a fisherman flying the flag of Mauritania, but its shipowner is Spanish.
The fisherman sank about 243 miles from Gran Canaria, in a position west of Cabo Bojador (Sahara).
