Description:
The 1937 Sunderland (Sir J.Laing) built ARISTIDES, the former BARON ELPHINSTONE of Hogarth, owned from 1959 by Frixos A.Theodorides who had operated from London as Aristides (Chartering) Ltd., is seen passing Portishead, inbound for Avonmouth, on the fine spring day of Saturday 16th March 1968, fifty years ago today.
She had sailed from Bombay on 24th December 1967 bound for Avonmouth, London and Hull but had suffered engine trouble en route, sailing from Lourenco Marques on 3rd February 1968 following repairs. ARISTIDES finally arrived at Santander on 30th July 1971 for breaking.
