Description:

Sydney Harbour, Walsh Bay off Barangaroo. 17 March 2018
Vessel near 33°51'13.98" S 151°12'08.64" E

Minister for Transport and Infrastructure Andrew Constance has revealed that the final name of the Emerald 6 ferry, branded as Ferry McFerry Face for the Summer, will be named after the iconic children’s author.

“We always intended this vessel would be named for the kids. After a summer on the harbour, Ferry McFerryface will now be renamed after prominent Australian author May Gibbs. This will retain the vessel’s appeal to our youngest customers while also recognising an Australian icon with a long connection to Sydney,” Mr Constance said.

“2018 also marks 100th anniversary of the first publication of her famous children’s classic Tales of Snugglepot and Cuddlepie.”

As well as being an iconic author, Ms Gibbs also gave so much to the disability sector of NSW and after her passing in 1969 she left the copyright of her works to Northcott Disability Services and Cerebral Palsy Alliance.

Hi Ted. The Cabinet Minister made a "Captains Pick" with the FerryMcFerryface name, which had not been favoured in a public vote. And the Maritime Union of Australia refused to crew the vessel in protest. The Union had the support on this issue of ferry passengers. For a few weeks the vessel wore both EMERALD 6 and FERRYMCFERRYFACE names, see http://www.shipspotting.com/gallery/photo.php?lid=2809888
The Minister was forced to change the name (See the Description above)
