Description:
The Great Lakes bulker Edwin H. Gott passes Port Huron, Michigan/Sarnia, Ontario upbound against a stiff current on the St. Clair River. It is a very rainy September 2, 2006, the photographer's birthday, as the Gott prepares to pass under the Blue Water bridges and enter Lake Huron. The 1,000 foot Great Lakes vessels are restricted to the lakes above Lake Ontario and were designed to haul iron ore and taconite although they will sometimes haul coal or other commodities.
