Hi Paul, with 1/6 of a second you have been lucky to get a sharp shot. When you in future make evening shots, you might also ttry to underexpose a little. Camera's have a tendency to try to make the picture look as much taken during the daylight as possible, hence they will give you a lighter picture than expected. By doing so you will also be able to apply slightly faster shutter times, helping to make a shot sharper. (Based on my experience shooting the Le Mans 24 Hour cars at dusk)

Hi Pieter, I just set the ISO the camera worked out the aperture but I think I must have set the shutter as I just done a test shot and the shutter is the same.I am still learning how to use it. lol

Paul, I notice that not only did you put the camera at ISO 3200, but you also applied shutter priority (1/6 of a second). Was that a deliberate choice?

Thanks Tony, all I done was set the ISO to 3200 and I let the camera workout the rest.Nikon D6500.

Paul, this is truly a great photo. My canon 600D would not achieve this on auto mode, I would need to shoot on aperture priority and set a high ISO. Cheers.

@ Juan Yes I was very surprised how well it came out as the ship was in total darkness you couldn’t see any detail.I basically did nothing to the photo apart from cropping.

Beautiful work without a tripod Paul. You sure have a steady hand and a fast camera.
