Moin Jürgen, many thanks for providing the additional info, that's a nice trip from Osterrönfeld to Winningen. Let's hope that the new harbour at Osterrönfeld has a busy future to justify the considerable construction costs.

Best regards and cheers, Hans

Avalon was in Osterrönfeld on 03. April 2018, she transited the river Elbe, Mittellandkanal to the river Rhine bound for Winningen/Koblenz.

Moin Volker, that's possible, but I don't know where the vessel came from. As far as I know the Bögl company wanted to restart production of such concrete parts at Osterrönfeld in March, but they normally deliver them within Northern Germany and Scandinavia. So it's possible but not probable that AVALON loaded her cargo at Rendsburg.

Best wishes to Büdelsdorf, cheers Hans

Hello Jens, thanks a lot for your compliment, it's much appreciated and @andrecas, perhaps you have a look at the second pic of this vessel to identify the car type ?

Best wishes to both of you, cheers, Hans

Andrecas, I really don't want to boast, but in Germany almost everyone can afford to drive a Mercedes... Just call a cab! ;-)

Hans, as always an excellent photo!

Cheers,
Jens

Ref automobile parked behind "bridge"... Size wise it looks like a C-Class..? The E-Class is a mid-size sedan while the C-Class is a compact sedan. I'm no expert either, but I do appreciate fine German engineering.
I cannot afford a Mercedes. I drive a VW Passat :-)

Hello Volker, her home port Mölln isn't too far away from Kiel Canal, she is from Schleswig-Holstein after all... But anyway, she's a fine ship and she is very well maintained by her skipper !

Cheers, Hans

Hi Vlad, no...actually it's a Mercedes-Benz, can't give you the exact type because I'm not a car expert. My enthusiasm is reserved for beautiful ships and vintage aircraft...

Best wishes and cheers, Hans

Hello andrecas, many thanks for your nice comment. I fully agree with you, these inland vessels are true workhorses and most of them are in excellent condition after serving for many decades. The special cargo should be concrete components for the lower part of a wind turbine mast, this kind of cargo can be seen regularly on inland vessels.

Best wishes to you from Hans

You've got some nice shots of these IDCV's. They are real work horses. After 55 years on the water, AVALON Still seems to be in very nice condition. Her cargo looks unusual. Do you know what she is carrying?
