Yes, she was a nice ship (as was her sister Empress of Britain). It is a great pity that Shaw Savill ever bought her, she would have found a better home with the likes of Chandris Lines or even Sitmar. The kiss of death for her, and Shaw Savill, was that dreadful, ill-conceived, refit by Cammell Laird.

I was on the pierhead at south shields when she went out for trials. A fine looking ship, the memories come flooding back

This picture was, in all probability, taken on 11th April 1970. This was less than 2 weeks after she had completed her final cruise for Canadian Pacific. On this date she departed on her first voyage for Shaw Savill to Australia via Cape Town.
