The vessel belongs to P.P. Shirshov Institute of Oceanology of the Russian Academy of Sciences and is being used worldwide both for research and cruise purposes. There are 3 sister vessels: Akademik Mstislav Keldysh, Akademik Ioffe and Akademik Sergey Vavilov and all these vessels belong to Moscow based Shirshov Institute with port of registry in Kaliningrad.

Akademik Mstislav Keldysh is not the sister vessel. She's definitely different

Adam, I'm not 100% sure, but possibly you're right. If we compare photos, then I don't see any great difference, but I'm not an expert. Approximately the same tonnage, also built in Rauma, Finland. Keldysh is 7 years older, but it seems that both vessels are of the same type. Most likely that should slightly differ from each other in terms of equipment and, possibly, design.
