I agree with you Hans, but I must also admit that I like some of these modern designs. Celebrity Edge for example or the new ONE container vessels. I also appreciate the traditional designs, but we have to move on with time. As Gustav Mahler said, "Tradition is not about worshipping the ashes but passing on the fire"... :-)

Jens,, Yeah, I think you are right, the world ticks by money not by look. This is extreme visible in the Maritime Industry. Some of todays design and so far away from tradition that some 40 years ago or so Ship designers who would promote it than would have been shot. Today it is a must to stay competetive. I am glad that I retire next 4-5 years !!!!

Well, I think that they will demolish the bridge and build a tunnel. It simply wasn't constructed for the heavy traffic we have today. Costs of maintenance swallow up millions of Euros. Furthermore a new bridge would have to be about 20 m higher to allow today's ULCVs to sail to CTA...

Right now I believe they are thinking about a two-storeyed tunnel below Köhlbrand, one storey for autonomous container transport and the other for normal traffic.

I would miss the bridge, too, it's one of our landmarks, but it's all about the money, isn't it?

Last but not least, thank you for your most kind compliment Hans! :-)

Cheers,
Jens

Hello Jens, thanks for this great pic from Hamburg ! I hope the Hamburg Senate will change its mind and not demolish the impressive Köhlbrand Bridge !

Best regards and cheers, Hans
