The Algol class ships are some of the fastest cargo ships in the world (capable of sustained speeds over 30 knots) and are large enough to carry significant amounts of the heaviest military equipment (including M1 Abrams Main Battle Tanks).
She is maintained by MARAD in 96 hour readiness.
She has participated in sea lift missions for the 1991 Persian Gulf War, operations in Yugoslavia, and Operation Iraqi Freedom in 2003 & 2004. In fact she was able to carry the ENTIRE vehicle fleet of the 2nd Armored Calvary Regiment home in 2004.
