Hi Jim! There are so few Canadian registered vessels I think we should have a Canadian ships section. To honor those few buissinesmen who accept paying taxes and giving jobs here.
We are, in Canada the most shipping dependent country in terms of shipped tonnage per capita; and the least équipped in ship's Gross Tonnage per capita; that is in the whole OCDE. Forgetting the lenght of unprotected coast line and most antiquated vessels of OCDE. The northen passage and the whole of canadian sovereignty is on the line right now!
Politicians, like quarterbacks, are talking gibberish but watch their feets and their fleet money. This is happenning now, More so in Canada than other countries only because parliement dont allow for a shipping level playing field taxation vs public investment.
That taxation should be compared with foreign and land based competitions doing essentialy the same job with higher social costs and little benifits to ordinary canadian taxpayers.
In fact Ottawa recently signed with proven protectionists European Association (Not EU) to open our home ships and by incidence shipping markets to Norway.
Follow the profits and youll find the brain. Jean
