Slightly off subject but true; General Quarantine Officers were stationed on the wharf while sheep were loading to inspect the rear quarters of all animals- to ensure no rams!

Merino rams were banned from export because the quality of its wool was the best in the world and Australian farmers didn't want other countries breeding them.

A sad end for a former beautiful liner. She had one sister ship which also ended its career as a livestock carrier called "Petrel" (ex liner "Yapeyu") and another one called "Maipu" which collided and sank shortly after being comissioned.

Minor correction on an otherwise great post: the name was CORMORAN not CORMORIN.
