Description:
Roald Amundsens polar ship "MAUD", named after the British born, Norwegian Queen Maud, (1869 - 1938), which he sailed on for the North 100 years ago. Since 1930 she has been a "wreck" in Canada, but is now brought back to Norway, a huge operation. On pontoons the tug Tandberg Polar has towed her from Canada. To morrow, on August the 18th, she is returning to the yard at Vollen, Asker, near Oslo, from Horten, where I shot this picture. The Norwegian Roald Amundsen and his men were the first ever to reach the South Pole, in 1911.
