Two US Navy AEGIS Guided Missile Ships tied up to Pier 6 at Norfolk Naval Base.
This shows the difference in the construction of the two ships. The USS Laboon is shorter and weighs less than the USS Normandy, but clearly wider.
The double decker pier has steam and electrical hookups that allow ships to get underway much quicker and also still have room for delivering cargo to the ships.
