It took me a while, about an hour I think, the style of the Cathedral seemed somewaht European to me, so I was searching the British Isles at first, too. Tried google picture search in vain an then entered a searchword combination describing the churchs apperance - and then the cathedral came up in google pictures. It was a pleasure. Normally I riddle with some other users on unknown ships in pctures on shipsnostalgia. If you don´t mind, also post the photo there. Its a great website, and your post will interest a lot of users.

Delivered to US Maritime Commission from builders on 15.07.1939. Saw sevice as LIGHTNING for United States Lines, but allocated to Moore-McCormack on 15.10.1940 and renamed MORMACTERN. Taken over bey US Navy as Transport AK-42 MERCURY, reclssified AKS-20, out of service 1959, laid up in NDRF and finally scrappes 1975

Thank you sdm this is really outstanding, I don't think I would have come up with this although I have been searching in UK and UK Territories for a while.

Apparently you couldn't let it go either, well done, thanks again

Cheers

The location is the Harbour of Hamilton, Bermuda Isles.
The significant church in the background is the "Cathedral of the most holy trinity" located near the shoreline.

I do not see this as a Norwegian location. And an American ship would probably not sail to German controlled Norway in 1941.

Maybe Scandinavian, e.g. Norway as More McCormack sailed there even after the war in Europe started...
