HUMMEL is the world's first hybrid liquefied natural gas barge built to provide electric power to cruise ships during their stay at Hamburg harbour. The barge also has equipment to supply heat and electricity to other ships during the winter months.
Producing 7.5 MW of electricity at 50/60 Hz on LNG alone she furthermore is a backup power bank to the local electric power grid.
The first testing of Hummel took place on May 29th, 2015, when she provided AIDAsol with power at her berth at Hamburg Cruise Center.
