Description:

27/01/2019, Tug now identified as the 'Genni Bay', no IMO but still working on the barge.
With grateful thanks to Jürgen and David for their assistance :-)

Friday 25/01/2019, 1130 hrs., photo taken in the Discovery Passage, opposite Campbell River, Vancouver Island, Canada.
Vessel and barge heading North.

Help sought to identify the tug, and specifically the barge (and what it is used for), is it a covered Seaspan barge?

As requested by a friend who lives there - but is not a 'ship' man.

I have tried AIS but cannot find a tug with tow that fits this photo.

Once identified, I will delete this photo.

Many thanks,
Rick

Looks like GMS 621 to me (rather than the now-completed GMS 622 which seems to be an altogether smaller affair at 29m length) - haven't found any reference to a GMS 623 either with Gemini or Canadian register.

So, I will delete this image tomorrow and the final analysis follows:

The tug was the 'Genni Bay' and the barge the 'GMS623'.
They passed Campbell River about 1130 local time on Friday.

It would appear from the information to hand that the barge was probably carrying bulk fish meal for what I guess may be fish farms at a place called 'North Arm', up near the open sea on the Pacific.
Some info here:http://prtugboats.blogspot.com/2013/04/genni-bay.html

Hi again Jürgen, I have been looking closely at that all the time. I am happy to allocate it as GMS 623... I think!
Best wishes, Rick

@Rick,
how much can you narrow down the photo? Isn't there a number on port side GMS 621 or 623?

Jürgen, I think you may be correct!

@Rick,
I think it is only a flat barge loaded with 2 ware houses.

Now found the company who own the tug and barge, although the barge seems to be not yet on their fleet list: https://www.geminimarine.ca/our-fleet

Hi Jürgen, good morning and thank you!
I had narrowed it down to a few, including the 'Genni Bay', but was still working on proving which exact vessel.

Your help is much appreciated.
AIS confirms she passed Campbell River at the appropriate time.

My friend, who lives there, was intrigued as to the barge. I have found the barge online but cannot find the company who own it - possibly 'GMS'.

Thanks again :-)
Rick
