Description:

The 1946 Vancouver built MASTER ELIAS, owned by E.Pontikos of Greece, is seen passing Hochdonn, Kiel Canal, eastbound on 10th July 1969 during a ballast voyage from Immingham to Gdynia to load for Chittagong.

History per fortships.tripod.com/Royal%20Navy.htm:

In total, twenty-one maintenance ships were ordered from Canadian shipbuilders for use by the Royal Navy. Sixteen 'Victory' type vessels were completed by West Coast shipbuilders but as the war ended, the orders for the final five ships were cancelled.

These five vessels, this ship RATTRAY HEAD plus Mull of Oa (which was launched as Trevose Head), Orfordness, Selsey Bill and Tarbet Ness were completed as merchant ships and, as they had been built to a high specification, found a ready market as cargo liners. All these maintenance ships were owned by the Royal Navy but two were later transferred to the Royal Canadian Navy.

1946: delivered to Iran S.S. Co. Ltd. as IRAN, placed under the Panama flag

1948: sold to Cia Argentina de Pesca S.A., Buenos Aires, and renamed MABEL RYAN

Sold in 1967 to E.Pontikos, taking the name MASTER ELIAS

MASTER ELIAS finally arrived at Sveti Kajo, near Split, on 12.2.72 for breaking
