Description:
SALCOMBE, operated by the Bristol coal merchants Osborn and Wallis, is seen passing Battery Point on 29th January 1969, exactly fifty years ago, bound for Newport to load another cargo of coal for Portishead power station near Bristol.
She was built in 1938 at Lekkerkerk, Netherlands, by DUIVENDYK as CAMROUX IV for the Newcastle Coal and Shipping Co Ltd, London, and purchased by Osborn and Wallis in 1942.
She was soon sold and renamed FRIARS CRAIG, finally in 1985 being scuttled as a reef in a position 13.04N/59.36W
