Description:

The 1945 Belfast built ARGOLIS STAR (the former DEFOE and GEELONG STAR), owned by Platon B.Metaxas (Phoenix Shipping Co Ltd., London), is seen eastbound in the Kiel Canal at Hochdonn early on 18th July 1969 bound in ballast from Port-Saint-Louis-du-Rhône (Marseille Fos) to Gdynia to load what was probably her penultimate cargo, for Port Sudan. She subsequently loaded a cargo at the Egyptian Red Sea port of Safaga in September 1969 for China, arriving at Shanghai on 29.10.69. Breaking commenced locally on 10.11.69.

Information received today (see web link below) states that ARGOLIS STAR was not broken up in 1969 but continued trading as ZHANDOU 17, then as ZHANDOU 94, until scrapped in May 1971
